1. What is cramps?

A sudden muscle spasm is called a cramp. This is an unwanted phenomenon and causes severe pain in the muscles, making it more difficult to move.

Cramps are usually found in the knees and ankles, and can also occur in the thighs, hips, hands, feet, abdominal muscles.

The cramping phenomenon can occur at any age, but the most common subjects for this phenomenon are those who regularly play sports and the elderly.

2. Why swim easy to get cramps?

Some of the main causes of swimming cramps include:

Do not warm up before swimming;

Use excessive force while swimming;

Because the body is not getting enough calcium.

When swimming in water, especially when the temperature drops, cold water causes our body to lose heat quickly. In order to generate internal heat and maintain the main temperature, the body begins to tremble. The thermoregulation mechanism is activated by the hypothalamus, causing the vessels that supply blood to the extremities to begin to contract to prevent heat loss from the major organs. This leads to a lack of oxygen on the limbs, and in low temperature conditions, cold water, it is very easy to swim cramps.

When exercising, if you try too hard, sweating too much (dehydration) also makes you more prone to cramps.

When swimming, the toes stretch causes all the organs of the foot to form a tight line from the calf to the toes. Keeping your feet like this when swimming is also the reason why you are prone to swimming cramps.
